Note: for Health Insurance, there are 3 programs: OHP/Government plans, 2017 Obamacare, and private market plans. To save your money, please click here to find out which program is the best one to match your situation, or call 503-693-2423 to speak to one of our agents. The samples listed here were quoted from private market plans for the year 2017.

Notes of Trump vs. Obamacare:

New President Trump 3-1-2017 in the US Congress formally promised his government would continue to retain the Obamacare two main terms: no pre-existing condition limitation and offering tax credit to help people to buy health insurance. This means that two essentials of the Obamacare, for most people who received benefits from the ACA, are still retaining. In other words, they can still save money when they buy health insurance. See attachment.

Therefore, according to above information, you can still apply for tax credit after 1-31-2017, the deadline of Obamacare open enrollment, if any special events occurred within 30 or 60 days as listed below:

1.) Your OHP insurance was terminated after lost eligibility due to increased income or assets, reduced family members, changed legal status or residency, etc. You should have a termination letter from the OHP.   (change from OHP to tax credit of ACA-Obamacare)

2.) Lost employer provided health insurance due to job changed or marriage changed;   (change from private market to tax credit of ACA-Obamacare)

3.) New residents who lost health insurance due to permanent relocation including moved into the US from a foreign country;   (change from any original plans to tax credit of ACA-Obamacare)

4.) Immigration status changes, like received approval letter of greencard or other proofs of valid US Visa, etc.  (change from any original plans to tax credit of ACA-Obamacare)

5.) Newly added family members due to marriage, birth of child, adoption, etc.   (change from private market to tax credit of ACA-Obamacare)

6.) Deep dropped family income, that was hard got recovered in short period, caused by divorce or lost capability to work due to illness or incidents;   (change from private market to tax credit of ACA-Obamacare)

7.) Failed application of OHP (note, you must have legal status and should have rejection letter from the OHP).    (change from OHP to tax credit of ACA-Obamacare)

8.) As a small business owner and at any time, you may apply for tax credit of a small group health insurance, that may save you up to 50% and do not check family income.  (change from private market to tax credit of ACA-SHOP)

Tip: The events listed above are not including all eligible events. There are still other special events to apply for tax credit after open enrollment (deadline 1-31-2017), which need to review and approve case by case.
